Knitting groups have had a resurgence over the last few years and with this group of yarnsmiths it is not hard to see why; they are a warm, welcoming, diverse and lively group. With a broad range of skills, projects and ages there was much skill sharing, assistance (especially that casting on and off…plus a few dropped stitches!), story telling and laughter. We also ended up with some casual crochet lessons thrown in.
Scarfs, throws, baby clothes and jumpers were all ongoing projects along with those who wanted something a little less demanding by way of knitted squares, which once completed would be joined to create blankets for Carevan for those in need over the cold Albury Winter.
The significant health benefits of knitting are becoming more widely know. With rewards similar to meditation and yoga, participants found their Thursday evenings a welcome respite in otherwise busy weeks…the glasses of wine and cups of tea were filled with antioxidants too…not to mention the lowering of blood pressure through regular bouts of laughter!
Whilst the initial session was only to extend for a month or two the newfound knitting community demanded an extended season into September!
Stay tuned for the 2018 knitting season! Join us in knitting together our community alongside a needle bag of lively and welcoming yarnsmiths. Experienced and beginning knitters and crocheters of all generations welcome. Drop in and out and knit your own project or a square to create blankets for those in need this winter.
BYO yarn and needles although there are usually a few spare or a few community squares on the go! No ongoing commitment necessary!
